spreaders and rod rigging supporting the Hall Spars carbon mast eliminate the need for a backstay and allow for a high-aspect, fully battened main that's coupled with a roller-furled headsail kept under efficient control by a patented Hoyt Jib Boom. Sheets, halyards, outhauls, and reefing lines run belowdecks and emerge at two-speed electric winches on either side of the 48-inch teak wheel.
To port, the main halyard, the single-line reefing system (another Hoyt innovation), and the mainsheet run through clutches that allow each to be used, then removed from the self-tailing winch. To starboard, the roller reefing, jib outhaul, and single jib sheet are organized in a similar manner.
Under way, the main is raised with the push of a button, and we're sailing in seconds, easily making a good 6-plus knots in just over 12 knots of wind.
