Info

On June t81h, the 2010 Newport Bermuda Race will start off Castle Hill in Newport, Rhode Island. The rhumbline course to Bermuda is approximately 162 degrees magnetic, with a distance of 635 nautical miles. The majority of the race is out of sight of land, with boats crossing a stretch of the Atlantic Ocean known for its challenging weather.

The racc occurs every two years in mid-June and usually lasts three to six days. More than 180 boats participated in the 2008 racc. As of January 3151—just two weeks afler registration started—98 yachts had applied for entry in the 2010 race.

The Newport Bermuda fleet has five divisions, which allows seaworthy boats of various sizes and types to race fairly and aggressively for an array of trophies. In keeping with the race's 100-year tradition of amateur sailors and strong family spirit, approximately 90 percent of the boats in the 2006 race had crews comprised of friends and family members. The race maintains its international prestige through competitive fairness, an exemplary safety record and a responsive race organization handled by the volunteer members of the Cruising Club of America and the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club.

The Newport Bermuda Race's official website has information on registration, rating certificates, dock spacc and ISAF sailor classification, as well as recommendations on seminars and gear. Visit www.bcrmudaracc.com
