Introduction to Gibraltar

Gibraltar's location on the southern tip of the Iberian peninsula, its proximity to North Africa and its small (30,000) predominantly English speaking community, makes 'The Rock1 invaluable to yachtsmcn. It has an airport with several daily flights to the UK and is an ideal place to store, take on fuel, carry out repairs and explore Spain. It offers a safe placc to lay-up and maintain ship, with all facilities available, including many European and US agencies represented for servicing and chandlery.

There are three marinas, all on the western side of the Rock in the Bay of Gibraltar (known as the Bay of Algeciras to the Spanish.) Two arc within walking distance of the airstrip.

Major changes and improvements are underway at Sheppard's and Queensway Quay marinas, described below. A new marina complex is being built to replace the old Shcppards Marina which will be moving N of the runway during 2005.
