The coastline from Mahdia south is very shallow, sometimes for miles offshore. Many channels leading to harbours are unmarked, and those harbours with buoyed channels are prone to silting and markers often drag in storms. The area is, however, a great and interesting challenge and the rewards are great. The area is historically significant and there are many Roman remains worth visiting inland. The climate changes going S, leaving most of the winter very much warmer than further N.
