The entrance to Sewa Bay, Normanby Island, is between an islet, Oeft), and the bay's southern headland (right).
SEWA BAY This unfortunate name describes a very pretty bay on Normanby Island which is surrounded by high, densely wooded hills with bald topped mountains in the background. Although lacking beaches and denying easy shore access because of the steep nature of the land, any anchorage chosen within this commodious harbour will prove absolutely weatherproof.
Villages are scattered around the foreshores of Sewa Bay with many gardens stuck to the hillsides promising abundant supplies of fresh fruit and vegetables. However, the friendly inhabitants have an inflated idea of their value and will probably ask absurd prices.
APPROACH Offshore from the bay are a few small islets and reefs all of which can be sighted well ahead except in the most miserable of visual conditions. For identification purposes, the reef lying SSW from the entrance to Sewa Bay, distance two miles, has three rocks atop which are always awash.
