Entering Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea is an easy country to enter, having only a minimum of rules for the visitor to observe.

A current passport must be held and it must be stamped by a Papua New Guinea consulate. Usually this is good for only one month unless longer time is requested in which case a return fare may be demanded. This latter demand is rare. Many yachtsmen enter Papua New Guinea without any visa and have it readily granted within the country itself.

Three months is usually the longest a tourist can remain in the country although an extension is not difficult to obtain provided you are a tourist and are not involved in any form of research or any pursuit which changes your status from tourist to 'research worker'.
