Frank Parish Aquarius Yachts 1978-1984 410 sq. ft. owner's choice 40 gal.

Approx. trailering wgt.: 13,400 lbs.

This is a compact character boat conceived in the 1970s, but designed to look like something from the 1920s or 1930s, and having the same general characteristics: heavy scantlings, lots of bronze hardware (including the turnbuckles, chain-plates, ten opening ports, even winches), and tanbark sails. Something like thirty-one of these boats were built, mostly the Marconi-rigged version; the gaff-rigged version was most likely intended for the light air prevalent along the East Coast. At least four interior layouts were offered (but because of space limitations, only two are shown here). Since these boats were built to order, no doubt the customer could have some other layout if he/she wanted. The standard engine was an 18-hp Volvo diesel, but a customer could mount an outboard bracket on the transom if desired. Some did. Best features: She has modern sail controls, with all lines leading aft to the cockpit. Lazyjacks are standard. Her Space Index at 564 tops the comps listed here. Worst features: Her displacement of 8,900 lbs. is more than any of her comps by over 10 percent and stretches the limit of practicality for a 24-foot boat, so her comps are probably all better performers in light air.
